The NAACP Image Awards is the nation's premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (motion picture, television, recording, and literature), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.This year, the awards comitte has named actress Tonya Lee Williams in the Outstanding Actress category for her portrayl of Dr. Olivia Winters on CBS' "The Young and The Restless."
Williams, who has portrayed the role for twenty years, has earned two previous NAACP awards, in 2000 and in 2002. Recently Williams wrapped up a Lifetime movie, "Double Wedding," also starring Tia and Tamara Mowry.
She is presently recurring as Octavia Jones, a senior U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent, on the CBC night-time drama "The Border".
Tonya is set to star in the feature film “Sons 2 The Grave” and continues to oversee ReelWorld Film Festival that she founded in 2001. “I feel privileged to have the opportunity to help new and emerging talent reach their full potential and their goals.”
The 41st NAACP Image Awards will air live from Los Angeles on Friday, February 26 (8:00 - 10:00 PM ET/PT Tape-Delayed) on FOX.
