Garfield Woman Severely Burned After Clothes Catch Fire

An unidentified Garfield woman suffered severe burns to her upper body after her clothing caught afire while she was cooking in her Washington Place home around 10:30 a.m.

The 76-year-old woman was airlifted to St. Barnabas Medical Center’s burn unit in Livingston where her condition is not known, said Sgt. Barry Cody.

Family members had extinguished the flames by the time fire officials arrived on scene.
