The man who told police he had been stabbed at the city parking deck has been charged with filing false police reports.
Miguel Angel Galarza III of Allentown told police he was working when a man came up behind him, placed him in a choke hold and began stabbing him.

When Galarza was found he had a stab wound to the right side of his lower back and required stiches.

An Allentown man was charged today with making false reports to police after he allegedly told police Monday he had been stabbed in a city parking deck.

Miguel Angel Galarza III, 21, of the 2000 block of South Fountain Street in the city, was found about 1:51 p.m. Monday in a parking deck at 612 Linden St., according to a news release from Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin. Galarza was found on the third floor with a stab wound to the right side of his lower back, which required four stitches.

Galarza told police he works for the Allentown Parking Authority and was doing job-related work when a man ran up behind him, put him in a choke hold and stabbed him, the release says. He claimed his assailant ran into the stairwell and was wearing a tan coat.

Police couldn't confirm Galarza's story despite looking at cameras from businesses near the parking deck and city video. Police searched the parking deck and nearby areas for evidence.
Galarza's wound were self-inflicted and he made up the incident, police say. They found a knife hidden in the framework of equipment attached to a Parking Authority vehicle that Galarza used.

He faces charges of false alarm to agencies of public safety and making a false report to a law enforcement agency. He is to be arraigned by District Judge Charles Crawford at the Lehigh County Central Booking Center.
