After 25 years of planning the first segment of the Brooklyn Bridge Park is set to open on Monday.
If you're interested in attending the grand opening, head to Pier 1 at Fulton Ferry Landing.
Gov. Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and other state and city officials will be in attendance to officially open the park with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
After years of squabbling and haggling, construction began on the park in 2008.
Judy Stanton, executive director of the Brooklyn Heights Association, said the opening “is long awaited” and will give the neighborhood what it has wanted for decades – public access to the waterfront for recreation.
“This is fantastic,” she said.
Brooklyn Piers
The Park is an amazing wonderland with an esplanade overlooking the Manhattan skyline, a classy high-rise consisting of 440 luxury condominiums(and another 780 units on hold due to the lackluster economy) and an elevated wine bar.
The Pier 1 landscape is the picture of suburbia heaven with it's grassy hills and other amenities. next month, an 85-acre waterfront park will open at Pier 6 in Brooklyn Heights.
The Pier 1 original opening date was pushed back twice over city and state fussing over who would run the park. Later this year, the City will assume responsibility after striking a deal which has them paying nearly $55 million of the $120 Million tab.
