Rapper little Wayne aka Dewayne Carter is still a wanted man despite being incarcerated in New York City. Tuesday, a Yuma, Arizona judge issued a bench warrant for failure to appear against the hip hop star in relation to a hearing on drug and weapons charges.
The attorney for the Grammy award winning artist, James Tilson, said Carter failed to appear in court in Arizona because he's currently serving an eight-month prison sentence at Rikers island after he was sentenced in New York last week for having a loaded gun on his tour bus.
Although Tilson filed a motion asking that his clients Yuma trial be vacated and Carter be allowed to appear in court after he served his time in New York, Yuma County prosecutor Deann Sandry said with Carter now being a convicted felon, a bench warrant should've been issued. Sandry also asked that the judge increase Carter's bond to $150,000.
Carter's legal woes in Arizona began after he was arrested in January 2008 at a border checkpoint after authorities say they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on another of his tour buses.
The 27-year-old rap star has been charged with one count of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia and misconduct involving weapons.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
