Authorities say they may have found the body of a 4-year-old boy that disappeared from his mother's Newburgh home in December 2009.
Marc Anthony Bookal had been missing from his home since December 14 while he was being cared for by the boyfriend of his mother, Christine Bookal.
The boyfriend, 30-year-old Cory Byrd, was initially charged with endangering the welfare of a child, Marc Anthony, but those charges were later dropped and Byrd was subsequently charged with violating his parole. He is now being held pending arraignment
Byrd told police that he was minding the child and preparing to leave he apartment to visit a relative when he noticed Bookal missing around 1:00 p.m.
Byrd found the door to the apartment open and couldn't find little Marc Anthony anywhere. He searched a neighbor's apartment and the area around the apartment, but did not find Marc Anthony. He was never seen again.
On Wednesday, a cadaver dog picked up the child's scent in a wooded lot near Colden Street in southeast Newburgh and found what appeared to be the body of a small child in the area.
That same area, which is near Marc Anthony's apartment on Benkard Avenue, had been searched extensively after he disappeared, but police didn't pick up a scent until Wednesday.
Police said the body had been deliberately concealed but didn't elaborate any further.
Lieutenant Charles Broe of the Newburgh police department said officials are trying to positively identify the body and find a cause of death at this time.
An autopsy has been scheduled for later today.
