A fight at Sayreville Middle School led to the arrests of five individuals, three of whom were not students at the middle school.

Sergeant David Lasko told the Star-Ledger that the Wednesday afternoon hullabaloo began after three middle school students, two 14-year-old males and a 13-year-old girl, were sent to the principal’s office following an argument.

While sitting in the principal’s office, the 13-year-old female sent a text message to her 16-year-old sister, a student at the borough high school. The sister arrived at the middle school with three teenagers in tow, Lasko told the Star-Ledger.

When the principal asked the four to leave, a brawl erupted outside of the principal’s office resulting in one of the 14-year-old males hitting the principal in the face.

Officers arrested one of the teenagers, a 16-year-old who has not been identified, on a trespassing charge. The sister of the 13-year-old student was also charged with trespassing. Anthony Colon, 18, of Sayreville, and Ruben Vazquez, also 18, of South River, were arrested and charged with defiant trespass.

Lasko told the Star-Ledger that the student who hit the principal was arrested and taken to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick. The principal was treated at the scene.
