Two hit-and-run accidents last week have left one pedestrian dead and another fighting for their life at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ.com reported.
The first accident occurred in Point Pleasant Beach around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night when a 14-year-old girl was hit by a jeep driven by Jeffrey Garabadian, 35, as he backed out of a Citgo service station on Bay Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach, The Daily Record reported.
According to Capt. Thomas Hayes of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Garabadian, of St. Louis Avenue, fled the scene of the accident. Two days later, investigators discovered Garabadian's 1998 dark green Jeep parked at his home around 8:00 p.m. Thursday, which led to an intensive investigation, assisted by members of the public and the suspect was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that caused serious bodily injury.
The unidentified teen was rushed to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she is was listed in critical but stable condition in the intensive care unit, The APP.com reported.
Garabadian is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond at the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.
The second accident occurred Friday evening while an unidentified man was crossing Route 46 eastbound near the Knights Inn Pine Brook motel in the Pine Brook section of the township on August 6, NJ.com reported.
The unidentified Hispanic male, appears to be in his late 20's or early 30's and was 5'5", with brown hair, and was wearing black pants and a red t-shirt with "Chicago" printed on the front.
He was struck by two vehicles as he attempted to cross the road around 11:00 p.m. and 12 a.m. The first car stopped, but the second vehicle continued driving and fled the scene, Montville Police Detective Sgt. Andrew Caggiano told the Montville Patch.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cagianno says the second vehicle involved in the accident is a white, four-door Nissan or Toyota sedan with a spoiler. He urges anyone with possible information about the identity of the victim or the vehicle police are looking for to contact the Montville police department at 973-257-4300.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the first car.
