Sometimes a "Big Brother" wants you to challenge yourself- Tyler vs. Spike by @therealziti

When I heard about Tyler Perry's late anger about the comments from Spike Lee, I thought why is he addressing this now? Oh yeah..he has a movie dropping on Friday. Controversy sells is the best thought on that one. I think that Spike was angry and maybe shouldn't have approached it that way. At the same time, Spike Lee is just trying to make the point that we've been there and done that..in terms of making movies that just entertain for the sake of making blacks look buffoonish and stereotypical fried chicken eaters.
I believe sitting here watching Malcolm X again for the 10th time, that Spike just wants Tyler to create more meaningful work. Movies that when you look back at them, you're almost there. Watching Denzel in Malcolm X, took me back in time to the sixties. It took me back to the Cotton Club era and even to that fateful night in the Audubon Ballroom, where Malcolm X was assassinated in 1965.
When I look back at most of Tyler Perry's movies I'm entertained, but I'm not sure if I'm really into the movie.
Spike Lee isn't really trying to bring you down Tyler. I know about the "crab in the barrel" syndrome amongst African-Americans. He just wants to see more from you, step outside of your comfort zone for a while. Yes, "For Colored Girls" didn't do that well, but don't let it discourage you from making good African-American movies with substance.
I have a big brother too, and sometimes he has said things to me that were hurtful at that point and time.
Looking back now, I appreciate him even more, because even though what he said to me was hurtful at that time..I now know why he said it and it has made me a better man today.
So Tyler, don't get too upset, your African-american big brother, Spike just wants you to dig deeper and bring the "drama" to the silver screen.
