Fort Bragg Soldier Released From N.C. Jail, Charged in Shooting Death of Retired Command Sergeants Major

Fort Bragg soldier, Clyde Terrell Cobb turned himself in to Fayetteville, North Carolina police last week after an involuntary manslaughter charge was lodged against him in connection with the death of a retired soldier last month.

According to the Fayetteville Law Enforcement Examiner, police were called to the Reserve at Carrington Place Apartment Complex on Lexi Lane in Fayetteville on September 9 where they found 56-year-old retired Army Command Sergeant Major Raymond Thompson dead of a gunshot wound.

Details remain sketchy, but media reports indicate Thompson was found in a vehicle and Cobb was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the complex. So far, all investigators are saying is that a confrontation of some sort led to the shootings, but no additional suspects or eyewitnesses have been named.

Cobb, a Staff Sergeant attached to the 112th Signal Brigade, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Police spokesman, Gavin MacRoberts said the 41-year-old soldier turned himself in and was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center after posting a $20,000 bond.
