Introducing Tales of the Lady Geek:
Hello, my name is MaryAnn and I am a Geek Girl.
I’m kind of an eclectic geek and extremely undercover, you certainly won’t see my kind represented on shows like “The Big Bang Theory” (my newest favorite show on the planet) and you cannot possibly pick my type of geek from a lineup of any other geek. You see I am the rarest Geek of them all, the elusive sneak Geek.
To everyone I seem like a typical business woman, mother and wife. I keep my hair neatly and conservatively done, my makeup gently enhances my natural beauty and my outfits range from smart business suits to fashionably casual always complete with accompanying heels. My only “expensive” vice is a hankering for knockoff Coach Bags, I buy the knockoffs because real Coach is expensive and I’m constantly putting holes in mine with the equipment I carry.
Inside of my Coach bag is a discreet tool box designed from old caboodles and anodized aluminum tricked out to include everything from a pink Multi-tool and grounding strap to several thumb drives with diagnostic software, useful and entertaining programs as well as portable hard drives, and connective cables. Next to that is my lipstick, eyeliner, a good Robert Jordan (Rest in peace) or Piers Anthony book and other girly type things. I stroll the streets ‘working it’ in my heels and totally embracing my woman power, while secretly thinking about the next great innovation in the video game world.
When I walk into the comic book shop, I am among my own people comfortable holding conversations about the latest incarnation of “Doctor Who” as well as the latest in Hard drive technology and what’s happening in the world of malware. When I walk into a pitch meeting for a potential client, I am always charming and direct, but my art resides in the inner workings of the computer. I am not a programmer or analyst and I’m certainly not anything cool like a web developer, although I can work a mean site via the many templates out there. I am actually at the low end of the tech spectrum, the grease monkey of the computer business. I fix the boxes and network everything together. It’s an art form I adore and that’s why I’m here. To tell you about the wonder of things I adore in the technological world.
