Town Board OK's Tax Relief Measure to Aid Flood Victims
I am pleased to report that the Ramapo Town Board has passed a resolution to formally adopt the Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee Assessment Relief Act, a measure enacted in Albany that provides relief to owners of property "catastrophically impacted" by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. We are the first municipality in the metropolitan area to adopt this measure.

The resolution enables us to reassess properties affected by flood damage from the recent storms. The new assessment can only be made if property has lost 50% or more of its value as a result of flooding. The deadline for Ramapo property owners to apply for assessment relief is March 8, 2012.

Please contact our Assessor's Office for further information at 845-357-5100.

We will continue to work to assist our local homeowners who have been adversely affected by these natural disasters.

Sincerely yours,
Signature
Christopher P. St. Lawrence
Supervisor Town of Ramapo
