"The Official Bronx Cinco de Mayo Event."

May 7, 2013 (Bronx, NY)Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. proclaims the 8th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration in Belmont as "The Official Bronx Cinco de Mayo Event."  The celebration, which honors the city of Puebla's triumph over French invaders, was held in the Belmont community on Saturday May 4, 2013.  Among the over 5,000 in attendance, participants were able to interact with many VIP's who came out to enjoy the festivities as well.  These included Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., NYC Comptroller John Liu, NYS Senator Jeffrey Klein, NYS Senator Gustavo Rivera, and Mexican Consulate Carlos Sada.

On a day full of fun, sun, and family, the community at large enjoyed free entertainment, food, and refreshment, thanks to several sponsors.  Organized by El Grupo Unidos; C-Town Supermarket, Verizon Wireless, NY Daily News, MetroPlus and HealthPlus partnered with producers Marketing & Advertising Solutions, Inc. to honor the Mexican population blossoming in Belmont.
The 8th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration's mission is to promote community by embracing our cultural diversities. This event was founded in 2005 by the non-profit organization El Grupo Unidos de Belmont Inc. and continues to be made possible by the support of various donors and sponsors. "We are honored to continue the tradition of celebrating our community.  While this is the 8th year for this celebration, the Perez family has championed the Bronx and neighborhood spirit for 3 generations.  Belmont seems to simply be part of our DNA…" says Jose Perez, President of Belmont's own C-Town Supermarket. The Cinco de Mayo Celebration is the leading event in the Bronx celebrating Mexican heritage and pride. Every year, El Grupo Unidos seeks to assist civically active school-aged residents of the Tremont and Belmont neighborhoods by providing scholarships to those students seeking to attend colleges or universities throughout the Tri-State area, including Pennsylvania.
