In Our Voices…Trayvon Martin Verdict

Blog On Sisters asked a diverse group of young men and women to talk about their reactions to the Trayvon Martin verdict. The “not guilty” verdict  has  elicited very strong and sometimes angry opinions from people across the country and around the world.  In addition, we highlighted some  of the opinions of our cultural icons and influencers.

As we move forward, Blog on Sisters would like to encourage people to turn their emotions and thoughts into advocacy and action for the greater good.  This verdict gives us an opportunity to talk about race in a real and authentic way.  It gives us all an opportunity to address the violence that claims the lives of too many young people on a daily basis.  It further gives average citizens and lawmakers an opportunity to address laws that disproportionately impact people of color.

As we approach the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech,  become a drum major for justice so that we can live out the true meaning of his words; “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character”.
