Alicia Evarista Cruz, a latinegrâ whose family roots stem from Humacao, Puerto Rico and Bogota , Colombia was raised in the South Bronx (Mott Haven). She currently resides in Camp Lejeune , North Carolina where she works for a local newspaper.
Alicia's career in journalism began with an internship at the Amsterdam News in 1987 before moving on to try her hand in the funeral industry where she worked as a Diener (Autopsy Assistant) at the New York City medical examiner's office.
Alicia later married her high school sweetheart and traveled the United States and overseas during her former husbands career in the Unites States Marine Corps. Alicia attended St, Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill , New York and plans to resume her studies in journalism next fall.
Alicia has worked for weekly and daily news papers throughout her career from California to Nevada and Tennessee . Some of Alicia's early mentors within journalism and writing have been Susan Taylor, Geraldo Rivera, Bill Beutel, Judy Blume and New York Times journalist, Sydney Schanberg.
