Hip-Hop star Ice Cube has been cast in a new role a la Denzel Washington style. Not exactly since Cube’s role is in an action comedy, but hey, potatoe…potato, right. His new role will be in a film titled Ride Along.
Cube’s production company Cube Vision Productions will produce the movie, along with producer Matt Alvarez (Janky Promoters, Are We There Yet, the Barbershops, All About The Benjamin’s and Next Friday) who will re-write the original script.
Ice Cube (nee O'Shea Jackson), age 39, will play this rogue cop, who attempts to sabotage his sister’s marriage to a psychiatrist by taking him for a ride. Production is slated to begin this summer.
Ice Cube’s next film, Janky Promoters, is due in theaters shortly, but it’s currently seeking distribution after an agreement with the Weinstein Co. soured.
Ice Cube’s status in the industry was on the rise following his role as 'Doughboy' in John Singleton’s hit, Boyz n the Hood.
A little encouragement from Singleton led Ice Cube to try his hand at screenwriting. In 1995 he wrote comedy Friday. The movie was an instant hit, earning $28 million worldwide. He’s been on the rise ever since then.
The scuttlebutt mill has been churning: New Line Cinema is supposed to be in the early stages of an N.W.A. Bio picture, which Ice Cube and longtime music collaborator, Dr. Dre may co-produce. Keep an eye out for updates.
