Jacksonville Man Arrested in Elder Abuse Case

A Jacksonville man has been charged with purchasing cruises and other items using money that belonged to an elderly victim.
Lonnie Jerome Jarvis, 42, of Holly Shelter Road, was charged Friday by the Onslow County Sheriff's Department with exploitation of an elder adult.
The Onslow County Sheriff's Office began investigating after receiving a report from Adult Protective Services Dec. 29,
"The investigation showed that Jarvis had been handling the victim's money for the past few years and during that time the bills had not been paid on time with utility services being suspended. An initial review of the victim's bank statements indicated that Jarvis was withdrawing large sums of money using an ATM card," according to a press release from the Sheriff's Department.
Jarvis is accused of using almost $150,000 of the victim's money on cruises, personal and dating sites and personal purchases, according to the Sheriff's Department.
"It was verified that the victim's water service, electric service and cable service had been disconnected several times for non-payment," according to the release.
Bond was set at $50,000.
