This is one of the best times for mi gente. We dress up, watch the dancers, drink, eat, cook and sing all day and well into the night. In Colombia we drink aguadiente and arepas and sanchocha and dance until dawn. It's almost as festive as Christmas.
We have some of the most beautiful Latinegras performing and people come from all over the world to watch.
When I was a little girl I knew I wanted to dance in Carnival one day and in 1992, 1995 and 2007 I got my chance. I honed my skills when I worked part-time as a Reno Show Girl and got to dance in shows for a summer. Check out the photos below of Carnival and see how we do it from Haiti to Colombia to Nicaragua and points in between.
