The West Indian Day Carnival celebrates Caribbean culture with parades featuring around 30,000 performers clad in outrageous and brightly-colored costumes.
The Parade made its way down Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn today.
You'd think folks wouldn't be able to afford to participate, because of the recession," says Yolanda Lezama-Clark, president of the West Indian American Day Carnival Association, which sponsors the festival and parade.
"But this is an opportunity to participate in something that gives them pleasure." "Besides," she says, "the carnival is known to be a stress-buster." Check out the pictures here
