2 and 3 Subway Lines Not Running;Train Derailed

BY TOM NAMAKO, Transit Reporter

The 2 and 3 subway lines are not running between Times Square and Atlantic-Pacific stations because part of a train derailed, New York City Transit officials said.

The second car of a 2 train came off the tracks at the Park Place stop around 9:30 a.m. this morning, officials said.

"We are working to remove the train and are trying to restore service for the evening rush," said NYCT spokesman Charles Seaton.

"No injuries were reported and customers were removed from the train safely," he said.

Inspectors are looking into why the train derailed. They also have to check the tracks for damage.

As a result, 2 trains are running on the 5 line in both directions, and 3 trains are running in two sections: between 148th Street and Times Square and between New Lots Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.
