The hills of Hacienda Napoles (Spanish for Naples Ranch) boasted animals from camels to lions to giraffe and elephants. The landscape bore luscious green hills and 14 lakes. Jets, reportedly stocked with cocaine, landed and took off from the runway next to the house, he walked the marbled floors of the mansion like the king he was revered for being. "ElPatro " as he was known, acted and was treated like a God. His was as famous for being generous as he was violent. His village trysts when he brought food and money to the poor earned him the Robin Hood image Colombians came to appreciate and love.

Hacienda Napoles, the 4,000 acre estate that belonged to the world's most famous narco drug lord, Pablo Escobar, is now a theme land-museum of sorts in Colombia. Replete with it's own bull fighting ring and private runway, the estate is located betweenBogotá and Medellín and houses Escobar's car collection and the very first plane he used to transport the drugs he was so famous for.

To the world he was a drug lord...a narco-terrorist notorious for violencia, ordering the deaths of those who opposed or challenged him. To Colombians, he was simply one of our own who made it big and shared his wealth by giving back to hispaisanos and their families. He was an adoring father and husband.

Escobar, who did not live to finish building the estate, is credited for introducing the hippopotamus to South America. Many of which now call the waters of his estate home. The hippos are said to be growing at an alarming pace.

The Colombian government vehemently denies rumors that the theme-Land/museum is a glamorization of Escobar's bloody reign of terror, but is more so a landmark that signifies a very important time and place in the history of Colombia. Reports sayEscobar controlled approximately 80 percent of the world's drug supply. The drug over-Lord was killed by search bloc police December 2, 1993 in his hometown of Medellín after a lengthy manhunt. Hacienda Napoles attracts approximately 50,000 visitors a year.
