Hoboken Student Files Assault Charges Against Teacher

By Melissa Hayes/The Jersey Journal

The family of a 15-year-old student charged with assaulting a Hoboken teacher, has filed simple assault charges against the Conners Primary School teacher.

The student was charged with attacking the teacher Dec. 16. According to police the assault happened while the teacher was talking to the student in his office around 1 p.m.
Police said the student grabbed the teacher’s neck. The student was charged with aggravated assault.

But a guardian, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor, said the student was the victim.

The family filed simple assault charges against the teacher Dec. 17.

The guardian alleges that the 15-year-old did not choke the teacher and instead it was the teacher who intimidated and assaulted the student.

The family said the student has been out of school since the incident, not because he was suspended but because they want him transferred to a different school.

Interim-Superintendent Peter Carter could not immediately be reached for comment.
