New York EMTs Release Statement Defending Their Actions

The two suspended New York City EMTs accused of refusing to render aid to a dying pregnant woman say they were actually "thanked by the woman" for their response.

Green and Jackson defended their actions in a statement read by their attorney, Douglas Rosenthal. The pair contradicted witness reports that accuse them of being dismissive and unconcerned when asked to help the dying woman because they were on their break.

The EMTs say, in fact, they were never asked to assist the woman.

Their statement went on to say that contrary to reports, "Other eatery employees did not seem unduly concerned by the patients condition, and continued to serve customers," says the statement.

The EMTs claim that they were simply told that Eutisha Rennix was exhibiting "asthmatic symptoms and some abdominal pain".

"The EMTs were prevented by protocol, training and regulations to intervene more acutely, as they currently do not work in a medical capacity, and were equipped with neither medicine or equipment. (Green and Jackson) never saw Eutisha Rennix as she was in the back of the Au Bon Pain, and that other employees continued about their duties," said Rosenthal as he continued reading from the statement. Rosenthal added that his clients were only asked to call an ambulance on the day in question.

Witnesses have said the EMTs told workers to call 911, then left after the witnesses asked them to help. Rennix and her unborn baby later died at a local hospital.
