West New York task force aims to bring in 300 on warrants

The new police director in West New York has formed a task force charged with bringing in 300 people who have warrants out against them, today's Jersey Journal reports.

Since last week, six people have been busted, Director Albert L. Bringa told the paper.

Bringa said since last week six arrests have been made:

On Dec. 15, Victor Espinosa, of West New York, was charged with contempt of court for failing to appear on marijuana possession charges.

On Dec. 18, Ricardo Velasquez, 42, of West New York, was charged with contempt of court for failing to appear on a simple assault charge.

On Dec. 18, Anthony Ayala, 29, of Guttenberg, was charged with four counts of contempt of court.

On Dec. 18, Castulo Carrillo, 47, of West New York, was charged with failing to appear on several charges, including assault with a knife, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

Bringa said because of the task force "people have begun calling the court to find out if they have outstanding warrants and for how much."

He said two people have turned themselves in:

William Lopez, 50, of North Bergen, turned himself in Tuesday. He was charged with failing to appear on a terroristic threats charge and had warrants out of North Bergen and Guttenberg.

Leia Yoon, 25, of West New York, turned herself in Tuesday for failing to appear on an aggravated assault charge.
