Clifton, NJ Man Arrested for Kidnapping is Re-arrested for Armed Robbery

Michael Siculietano, 30, was arrested Monday on an armed robbery charge after he allegedly threatened to shoot an attendant at the Lukoil gas station on River Road, Detective Capt. Robert Rowan said. Siculietano, of Belleville, pulled into the gas station at 7:45 p.m., got out of his car and allegedly told the gas attendant to hand over all his money, motioning to his pocket and saying he had a gun.

Another attendant walked up and startled Siculietano who got back into his car and drove away. The two attendants gave police the license plate number, and detectives found Siculietano at his mother’s home on Monday.

He was questioned and arrested at police headquarters and bail was set at $75,000. Siculietano was arrested in June for abducting his ex-girlfriend, Angela Nowak, from the Nutley home she shared with her boyfriend.

The kidnapping, which was at knifepoint, spawned a nationwide search that ended when police found Nowak the next day after a Rutherford hotel employee recognized Siculietano on a newscast. Police found Siculietano at the hotel and arrested him on assault, burglary, robbery, carjacking and kidnapping charges.

Clifton police believe he was out on bail for those charges when he was arrested on Monday.

Clarification, Jan. 27, 2010: An earlier version of this story reported that a Belleville man was arrested on Monday in an alleged Clifton robbery and had been previously arrested in an alleged kidnapping in Nutley in June.

A grand jury dismissed the kidnapping and carjacking charges in the Nutley case against Michael Siculietano, 30, his attorney Michael Willis said Wednesday. Siculietano was indicted on burglary, theft, aggravated assault, threatening violence and weapons offenses in October, according to the Essex County prosecutor’s office.

He was released from the Essex County Jail on $35,000 bail in December, according to county officials. Siculietano was in Passaic County jail Wednesday afternoon on $200,000 bail in the alleged Clifton robbery, according to jail records.
