Crews are digging in the area of this morning's Jersey City water main break in an effort to determine whether the failed pipe is a 38-inch main or a 12-inch pipe, Fire Director Armando Roman told The Jersey Journal.
If it is the smaller pipe, an offshot of the larger one, only water to the Target in Newport will have to be shut down while repairs are made over the next 24 hours, Roman said.
If it is the large pipe, as originally thought, it will have to be shut down and many residents in Newport and other areas Downtown will have low pressure or no water as repairs are made over the next 24 hours.
Roman expects to provide another update shortly.
