Flirting turned fatal outside famed China Club...

It started over a girl.

The young man stabbed to death outside midtown's famed China Club got caught up in a fight sparked by his friend's flirty advances toward another man's gal, his grieving relatives say.

The victim, Kenyatta Cotterell, 22, was with his brother and near the club's service entrance early Saturday when they began to bicker with another group.

One of Cotterell's friends tried to make moves on a girlfriend of one of the other men, which led to an eruption of violence, the dead man's brother said.

"It was really pointless," said a mournful Tristan Cotterell, 26. "We were fighting over nothing."

Seeing his brother kneeling on the sidewalk along W. 46th St. near Eighth Ave., Tristan Cotterell ran over to help - only to have his brother keel over.

"I grabbed him and said, 'Come on, let's go,' and he didn't respond - he just collapsed," the elder Cotterell said.

Kenyatta Cotterell died a short time later at St. Vincent's Hospital, police said. He leaves behind a 3-year-old son, his sister said.

"He was very loving," said sister Patrice Miller, 29. "He was always willing to do anything for you. He was a sweetheart."
