Poet's Corner: "DJ Hero"

By A. Jarrell Hayes

DJ HERO

Dum-dum-dum
Is the sound
Of the drum
Beating before
The fall
Of it all.

Fingers scratching
On vinyl discs
Spinning backwards
To bring us forwards
Last night the music
Saved my life

Forgetting bullshit
Capitalistic
Materialistic
Monopolies
As bodies
Cram onto the
Dance floor
Like slaves
Under ship's boards

The rhythm is
The same
The sound is not
The same
The feeling is
The same

My body is beyond
My mind
And I can do anything

Last night the music
Saved my life
Mixed by the
DJ Hero
