Three men spending Easter Sunday canoeing on the Delaware and Raritan Canal found themselves in trouble after their canoe became entangled in underwater branches and capsized, throwing all three into the water.

None were wearing life preserver jackets. An unidentified man drowned at the scene, but two were rescued by passers-by.

According to police, the canoe capsized about 3:45 p.m. Divers recovered the body of the 36-year-old man several hours later in approximately 20 feet of water.
The name of the drowning victim is being withheld pending the notification of his family.
