Linden police say they found the dismembered remains of a man and woman in garbage bags outside a home at 200 Cranford Avenue Monday.

A resident from the street where the remains were found telephoned police around 9:40 a.m. to report the bags being left on the street. When police and a City worker arrived at the scene they opened one of the bags and observed body parts inside.

The Fire Department spread a white sheet around the trash bags before loading them onto stretchers and transporting them to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.

The medical examiner's findings concluded the body parts are human and say one set of the remains appears to be a male Hispanic between the ages of 30 and 35. There were no details about the female victim made available at press time.

Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow says the bodies were found among four cloth laundry bags and two black garbage bags and were possibly there since Thursday.

Linden Mayor Richard J. Gerbounka called the shocking discovery "very unusual for this area."

Resident Rhashonna Cosby-Hurling, who had organized a neighborhood watch told My Central Jersey News there was never a smell or puddle of blood around the heavy duty garbage bags.

Another resident of the neighborhood, Carol Thomas-Garretson, said, “It affects me a lot, I live right here. I have kids that ride up and down the street.”

Linden police are asking anyone with information about the dismembered bodies to call the Linden Police Department at (908) 474-8500 or the Union County Crimestoppers at 908-654-TIPS. Union County Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for this crime.
