Marine Corps officials have identified the Camp Lejeune Marine who died Monday as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound as Sgt. Thomas R. Bagosy, 25, of Newark, Deleware.
Camp Lejeune officials did not say if Sgt. Bagosy left a suicide note.
Sgt, Bagosy was at the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital Monday when, for reasons unknown, he fled. Military police pursued Bagosy, but it is unknown whether he was ever captured. Sometime after the pursuit ended, Bagosy was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Cross Street and McHugh Boulevard aboard the mainside section of the base.
A press release from Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command stated that Bagosy served as an automotive organizational mechanic after joining the Marine Corps in June 2004. He was promoted to his current rank on Dec. 1, 2007 and joined MARSOC on Oct 2, 2008.
Bagosy's decorations include two Combat Action Ribbons, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, an Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and a NATO Medal – ISAF Afghanistan.
The alleged suicide remains under investigation by base investigators.
