New Jersey motorists are paying less at the pumps just in time for road travel during the Memorial Day weekend.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reported a 5-cent drop in regular gasoline prices in New Jersey at $2.73 a gallon on Friday, eight cents cheaper than the national average of $2.81. One year ago, Jersey motorists were filling up at $2.25.

AAA spokeswoman Tracy Noble told the Associated Press that falling gas prices are "welcome news" for the 28 million drivers planning to travel by car during the up coming holiday.

Gasbuddy.com reported the highest gas rates in Queens at a Gulf station on Woodhaven Blvd & Myrtle Ave at $2.95 per gallon followed by a BP gas station on Palmer in Bronxville at $2.92. The lowest petrol rate was reported at a BP on Springfield & 19th Ave in Newark on Friday at $2.69. The current national average is reading at 2.816 while the U.S. Crude rate sits at 67.380 per barrel.
