The APP.com reported the drowning of a 61-year-old diver Saturday after he dove into the water 11 miles east
of Barnegat Light. The man, who remains unidentified at this time, was transported to the hospital by the Coast Guard after surfacing and appearing unresponsive.

This is the second time in as many days that the U.S. Coast Guard has assisted in either a drowning or rescue on the waters of the Barnegat.

A week ago, crew members from the Holland America cruise ship Veendam alerted the Coast Guard around 9:15 p.m. with a report that a passenger fell down a stairwell from the cruise ship injuring her head. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City to rescue the 88-year-old woman about 50 miles east of Barnegat Light. She was later transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.
