An Allentown woman was gunned down and pronounced dead at 2:52 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest after she and her male roommate were shot and critically injured in their downtown Allentown apartment early Friday, according to the Morning Call.

Barbara Heinrich, 52, of Turner Street died while undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound to the back. Her death, the sixth this year in the city, has been ruled a homicide by Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim. Her room, who has yet to be identified, remains in critical condition, police said. There has been no word on what injuries he sustained.

According to police reports, officers were called to the Turner Street apartment around 12:58 a.m. Friday where they found both victims injured. Assistant Chief Joseph Hanna said no arrests have been made and police have no motive in the double shooting, but continue to investigate the incident.

A neighbor of Heinrich's, Alfredo Fernandez, told the Morning call he was partially awake because his wife gets up early for work when he heard four to six gunshots.

''I didn't look outside because I didn't know where the shooting was coming from,'' he told the Morning Call.

Fernandez, who does not speak English well, told the Morning Call he did not know Heinrich well, but said there always seemed to be people entering and leaving the apartment.

Another man who lives on Turner Street said he returned home from work around 11:30 p.m. Thursday and saw people sitting on the front porch of the apartment building, as usual. He said he went to sleep and did not hear any gunshots, but he also said there was usually a lot of activity at the apartment building where the shooting took place.
