A mysterious shooting took place in Lenoir County at the Bojangles restaurant Thursday evening, Lenoir County police told WCTI TV 12.
Kenneth Michael Leefe was found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle in the parking lot of the Highway 70 BoJangles restaurant in LaGrange, North Carolina.
A representative for the BoJangles Corporate offices issued this statement in relation to Leefe's death, "We are all very saddened at the loss of one of our management team associates. Our condolences go out to his family and our thoughts are with them in this time of need. We are confident that investigators will apprehend the person or persons responsible for this tragedy, and justice will prevail," said Bojangles/Tands Inc. representative Donna Rodwell.
The Sheriff’s department and agents from the North Carolina SBI have questioned Bojangles employees and other potential witnesses hoping to generate leads, but have no suspect(s) or motives at this time.
According to WCTI TV 12, surveillance video from the restaurant shows Leefe locking up the restaurant, then leaving around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The footage then shows the young manager being shot at close range then trying to drive away before hitting a curb and then slumping over the wheel of his car. Sheriff Billy Smith told WITN 7 News that robbery did not appear to be a motive in the shooting since nothing was stolen from Leefe, who was not carrying a night deposit bag when found by police.
An employee of the restaurant told WCTI TV 12 that Leefe was killed the day before his birthday, June 25. If you have any information on this shooting, please contact the Lenoir County Sheriff's Department at (252) 559-6100 or The N.C. SBI at (919) 662-4500.
