A broken hot water pipe flooded the third floor of the Jersey City Medical Center causing hospital officials to have to send incoming patients to other medical facilities, NJ.com reported.
Around 4:00 a.m., water flooded an administrative area of the hospital, running down the elevator shafts and to lower floors, said Jersey City Medical Center spokesman Mark Rabson. No in-house patients or medical staff were on the floor where the flooding began, so the water went unnoticed for some time, Rabson said.
The ER and trauma center are on the opposite wing of the Medical Center and were not affected by the flooding Rabson said. As late as 9:00 a.m. Friday, patients were still being diverted to other hospitals and visiting hours at Jersey City Medical Center have been suspended until the elevators are running again, said Rabson. No word on what caused the hot water pipe to burst.
