Lonnie David Franklin Jr., 57, the man accused of gripping the City of Angels with utter fear for at least a decade as he went on a murderous rampage was arraigned Thursday afternoon on several murder and attempted murder charges.
Investigators blame the former garbageman, who was labeled "The Grim Sleeper," with at least 11 deaths in south Los Angeles beginning in 1985.
"For the next 25 years, one man preyed on the innocent and stole the lives of women living in some of our toughest neighborhoods," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa told reporters Thursday.
"Today, I'm proud to announce that this terror has finally come to an end," he added.
