NJ Assembly: No go on 2 Percent Tax Cap Compromise

The speaker of the New Jersey Assembly said she won't block legislation to tame the nation's highest property taxes, even though she was not part of a deal the governor and Senate president reached this weekend.

Speaker Sheila Oliver said she would meet with Assembly Democrats on Wednesday to discuss the new plan to cap spending and property tax increases at 2 percent annually.

``Cap 2 certainly represents a major departure from where the governor was 10 days ago,'' Oliver told The Associated Press Tuesday in her first public comments on the compromise Gov. Chris Christie and Senate President Stephen Sweeney announced Saturday.
