Queen of Soul Cancels BKLYN Concerts After Fall

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin was forced to cancel two free concerts in Brooklyn after she took a nasty spill while in her bathtub. Franklin, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, broke ribs and has abdominal pain from the bathtub fall and says her doctors advise her doctors to undergo tests.

In May, Franklin received an Honorary Doctorate in Music from Yale University. Her July 27 performance with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice before a crowd of 8,000 at a children’s programs fundraiser in Philadelphia was memorable and included a song from her new album "A Woman Falling Out of Love," to be released later this year.

The Queen released a statement saying she would like to reschedule the concerts for late August and was “very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island.”

Franklin, who was also set to perform at troubled U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel's (D-N.Y.)Aug. 11 birthday party, has won 18 Grammy Awards throughout her nearly half-century long career and holds the record for most Best Female R&B Vocal Performance awards.
