Edariel "Riddick" Melendez, the man convicted in the shooting deaths of two New Jersey residents he mistook for rival gang members has been sentenced to 94 years in prison, Union County prosecutors said.
13-year-old Elijah Henderson and 54-year-old Celso Pedra were brutally gunned down days apart in November 2007 by Melendez, 22, of Elizabeth. Melendez and another man were looking to avenge the murder of fellow Crips gang member when they killed Pedra and Henderson.
Melendez was convicted in June on murder, conspiracy and weapons offenses. Prosecutors say he must serve 85 percent - about 80 years - of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
