A 4-year-old girl was found dead in her mother's Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment, which police described as "filthy," and investigators seem to be divided over what may have happened to Marchella Pierce.
Some believe she was starved to death, but others believe her medical condition may have contributed to her death. The Daily News report stated that prematurely born Marchella, was born with underdeveloped lungs and breathed through a trachea tube connected to an oxygen tank.
Marchella's body was found on her mother's bed and bore bruises that were consistent with trauma, according to a NY Daily News report.
Police say the child, who weighed a reported 15 pounds, was severely malnourished and from the looks of her bed, which had twine attached to the rails at the head and foot boards, the little girl had been bound to her bed at some point.
"There were marks on each of the child's ankles consistent with her being tied up with that twine," a police told The NY Daily News.
The girl's mother, Carlotta Pierce, 30, was being questioned at the 81st Precinct, but had not been charged at press time.
Carlotta, a mother of three, refers to herself as "a proud parent" on her MySpace page and claims she checked in on little Marchella at 4 a.m., then again at 6 a.m., which is when she found her unresponsive, with cold hands.
The city Administration for Children's Services has previously investigated at least two complaints involving Marchella.....MORE
