North Carolina rapper Petey Pablo was arrested Saturday morning at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen gun and carrying a concealed weapon, The News and Observer reported.

Pablo, whose real name is Moses Barrett III, was arrested at 9:11 a.m. as he attempted to board a US Airways flight bound for Los Angeles. He was later transported to the Wake County magistrate's office and released around 9:48 a.m. after posting a $50,000 bond, NBC17 reported.

According to an airport official, the rapper knew the Smith and Wesson Model 639 handgun he was carrying had been reported stolen.

Barrett, of 205 Caribbean Court, Knightdale, North Carolina allegedly told another airport police officer that he forgot that the weapon was in his carry-on luggage, RDU spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin said.

The 31-year-old "Freek-a-Leek" rapper was flying from North Carolina to Los Angeles to attend the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Barrett was sentenced to 14 years in prison after he was convicted of armed robbery in 1993. He served six years of his sentence and moved to New York City after he was released. There he met Black Rob and Busta Rhymes before being signed by the A&R director of Jive Records who heard Barrett rapping in the bathroom of a night club. His first solo single, "Raise Up," (produced by Timbaland) was released in 2001.

The Wake County Detention Center confirmed for The Black Urban Times that Barrett's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, September 13, 9:00 a.m. at the Wake County Courthouse.
