Since the demise of the funny and entertaining, "Chappelle Show" their has been an empty space in the sketch comedy show arena. But now a new variety show entitled "Purple Stuff Tv" is stepping up to fill that void.
The creator of Purple Stuff Tv, Brandon Broussard with the help of Barry Floyd aka "TT" from The Game, used the remains of "SNL (the classic episodes)" "In Living Color" and "Chappelle Show" to create his own monster.

Where did the name "Purple Stuff TV" come from?

When we were trying to think of a name, we had just watched Dave Chappelle's stand up, For What It's Worth.  And we got the name from that stand up where he's talking about the Sunny D commercial and he talks about the little black kid in the back who's looking in the fridge like, "I want that Purple Stuff."
How did this sketch comedy show come about?
I felt that when Chappelle went off the air, there was really a void in sketch comedy and we want to fill it.
What background do you have in the television/film industry?
I worked as a writer on Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Meet the Browns for several years.
I know this show was first displayed on the internet but when will it be shown on televison?
We recently shot a pilot and are shopping it around.  It's our hope to be on TV in the next six months.
How do you see this show going up against the reality shows?
I think people are dying for good sketch comedy.  When sketch is good, it's the most talked about thing on TV a la SNL Sarah Palin sketch, Chappelle Rick James and Prince sketches... people still quote In Living Color to this day "Hated it" and "Homie don't play that."
How is this sketch comedy different from the past comedy shows?
A lot of sketch comedy shows write for the cast of the show.  Purple Stuff is completely different in that, our writers have free reign to come up with the funniest ideas they can and then we cast based on who makes the sketch funniest.  In short, most sketch shows are geared towards what their cast is able to do, our sketch show is geared towards what our writers can write and we build our cast from there.  More like a film or traditional TV show.

What is the writing process like for these sketches?
Again, we're different than most sketch shows because of my sitcom background.  We write in a traditional writers room with Barry Floyd as the head writer and 8 other staff writers.  Everyone pitches their ideas for sketches.  We vote on the best ones.  We beat out those ideas into stories, outline them, then we assign those outlines to the writers we think are best suited to do those sketches.

Where does the bases of the sketches come from (news, gossip)?
We base our sketches on our own experiences and on current events.  We've done sketches on LeBron James and Tyler Perry and we have original characters like The Asstrologist and Ninera Sylvia.  We also poke fun at current trends like reality television and dating shows for example: One of our sketches is called For the Love of Jesus and is a spoof on For the Love of Ray J.
How can other talents/writers get involve with this show?
People can always reach out to us on our fan page on face book.  Purple Stuff TV.

How did Barry Floyd "Tee Tee" from "The Game" get involved with this show?
Barry initially came to LA to be a writer and knew one of the original cast members of Purple Stuff.  He's been writing on the show since its inception.  It's been fun to watch his acting career blow up at the same time that we're doing Purple Stuff.
Are there any traits of comedy that you borrowed from SNL, In Living Color, and The Chappelle Show?
From In Living Color, we definitely took their irreverence.  We think it's important to go after anyone in the news, no exceptions, when doing comedy.  If you're not offending someone, you're not doing comedy.  From SNL, we loved the news desk and when we're on TV, we will definitely have a news section of the show.  From Chappelle Show, we took the concept of digital shorts and ran with it.  We find that shooting a sketch like it's a mini film, and being able to tweak and edit it, makes for a much funnier product than say, doing it live.

What attracted the attention of Global Grind website?
We had a relationship with the VP of Rush Communications and when he saw the trailer for purple stuff, he immediately asked Global Grind to run the show on their network.
What sketch gained the most attention from the public?
The most popular sketch we've done is "The New Lebron Commercials"  We originally posted it on Global Grind but Russell thought it was too offensive and took it down.  We put it up on Youtube and it got over 300k hits that week without any promotion.
What is the goal of this comedy show?
We want to be the next generation of comedy sketch shows on TV.  We want people to talk about our show the way they talked about SNL, In Living Color, and Chappelle Show.

What do you see ahead for this comedy show in the next five years?
I see us getting on TV soon and everybody wanting "that Purple Stuff."
