Single MOMS of Atlanta - New Reality Show COMING SOON!

Finally a positive reality show that showcases the lives of single moms. Single Moms Of Atlanta follows seven single, independent women living in and around the Atlanta Area. Watch as they share their lives raising their children without the benefit of a partner.

Being a single mother is never easy. You are the provider, disciplinarian, comforter, counselor, teacher etc. You perform the roles of two people, the father and the mother. Successful single moms accept the responsibilities and challenges of single parenting. They neither minimize nor exaggerate problems but seek solutions. They acknowledge the difficulties (such as a lack of personal time, a restricted social life, sole responsibility for meeting multiple needs, and financial stress) without self-pity or bitterness. No matter what trials and tribulations you face as a single mother. The most important need for your children is to feel unconditional love.

Real Life, Real Women, Real Issues!!

This concept was developed by single mother - creator and executive producer Ms. Charnell Williams Co Creator/Castmember/Executive Producer of Single Moms Of Atlanta. A native of Atlanta, Ms. Charnell is the mother of 3 children. She's an advocate for single moms worldwide & this show was developed based on her own life experiences dealing with divorce and becoming a single mother. She's an outspoken, honest, loyal, determined woman. Charnell has been faced with many trails, tribulations and hard times to deal, but because of her steadfast faith, she believes that you have to continue to dream. Just because man says no, GOD always says YES!! You have to create your own opportunity if one is not given. You have to be your own vision board.Single Moms Of Atlanta was created to give single moms across the globe a since of hope. That you can do all things. No amount of struggle can stop your hustle. You have a voice. Don't stop dreaming. Keep trying until the wheels fall off. One of her many sayings "As long as you have breath in your lungs, GOD is giving you another opportunity to succeed".

Exclusive: Interview with Classical Singer, Recording Artist, Actress BRIDGETTE COOPER

Bridgette Cooper is a beautiful and talented classical singer, recording artist and actress. Ms. Cooper received her Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance from East Carolina University where she was awarded the outstanding college students of America award.

After that she went on to study at the prestigious American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. She is no stranger to hard work and thus her many awards and honors have proven just that. Recently she was awarded the 2012 Marian Anderson Scholar award and also being a recipient of the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award from East Carolina University School of Music, her alma mater.

One of her guest soloist engagements included being able to pay tribute to First Lady Michelle Obama at the People’s Inaugural Luncheon! She has an extremely long list of recognitions and is well deserving of them all.

EARLY YEARS: At the age of about 10 or 11 her voice teacher complimented on her voice but at that time music didn't even spark a real interest to her. It wasn't until she performed in a concert where she received a standing ovation that her parents saw something in her that they never really took interest in before. From that point on she began to develop her craft and really began to flourish once she began to attend college. As her love for classical music grew she felt it even more important to introduce it to those who weren't familiar with that style of music.

Exclusive Interview with up and coming artist TREVANTE'

Trevante, the outstanding superstar in the making has a bright future ahead of him in the music industry. At the age of only 18 his presence resembles someone who has been in the game for much longer than a few years. He first hit the scene independently releasing two singles “That Girl” and “Baby Girl” for Selsum Records. These hits were written as well as produced by his father Joe “Simply” Halliburton. Eventually he snagged a deal with FYE which allowed him to build his fan base. His single “Baby Girl” hit the #1 spot on Billboards R&B and Hip Hop Singles sales chart. This began the start of many more opportunities to come.

He first took interest in music at a very early age. He recalls at a very early age listening to old school music and having received a natural love of music from his father who previously was signed to a major recording label. So following in his father’s footsteps came natural to him. Great singers that he grew up listening to were such notable talents such as The Temptations, Michael Jackson, Eddie Kendricks, Jackie Wilson and Frankie Lymon. Listening to such artists like that is what he says “made me really want to do this”.

His upcoming release which is untitled at the moment, will send across the message of love. Trevante often wishes he would have been an artist in the 90’s where lyrics actually meant something. The late great, Michael Jackson is his artist of choice that he really looks up to from that time and admires because of the passion he had for just loving people and wanting to spread love across the globe. If the opportunity would have presented itself he definitely would have loved to have collaborated with him. Other notable talents that he would love to collaborate with in the future are artists such as Prince and Brandy.

TOURING: He previously got the opportunity to tour with Diggy Simmons and Mindless Behavior. The experience for him he says “it was amazing”. Being his first big tour it was exciting and really fun. He sums it up by saying “it was a great experience”.

Why should we buy the CD: “Why because it is all about love”. The world needs more love and his CD will definitely get people to reminiscing on why they fell in love in the first place. “It is not putting emphasis on how many girls I have, but is just a real record”, he says. At the age of 18 that is not an everyday quote people would most likely hear but then again Trevante isn't your ordinary 18 year old. This young man is going places and his impact will be great. Don’t let his age fool you because his music is for all ages.

TayLang’s Signature Question: If you were in another part of the world and nobody knew who you were how would you introduce yourself?

“I am Trevante, I am an entertainer. I am here to bring love…If it is negativity I don’t want to be around it. I am bringing positivity everywhere I go.”

Black Urban Times really appreciates this interview with this remarkable young man and we wish him nothing but continued prosperity as he climbs the ladder of success!!

Special thanks to Double XXposure

Huffpost's Black voices not for "black readers"?

And BET just started negative programming?

This is an excerpt from an interview with NPR..it seems that even though its called "black voices"..there is still a hesitation to present a news platform that will be exclusively delivering news to the African-american demographic. Very interesting..read the quotes.

KEYES: Ms. Johnson, how will this site be different from TheRoot.com or your basic black newspaper like the Defender in Chicago.

JOHNSON: Yeah, well, this is, this is really news that has become social. I mean we're going to talk about everything. This is going to be fearless reporting. I just learned this little phrase and I just love it. It's the digital water cooler. We are bringing the voices of the black community together. They have now got a whole new platform where they can blog, call in to us, they can send in articles or ideas that they would like us to discuss.

CARROLL: I would just like to add to that, if I could. It's Rebecca. That we're not only bringing black voices together, we're also dispersing them. We're not going to be a sort of self-segregated news spot. We're going to be a place where everything that's on the site should be and will be interesting to everyone in America and beyond. It's not just black readers, it is for anyone who is interested in issues that are really important to the entire country.

KEYES: I'm interested that you said that because I was looking at your site, and you're talking a lot - it's kind of an ode to HBCUs. There was also a piece on the president's war on drugs. And I'm curious, Christina, with stories like that up there today, how do you bring in the racially diverse readers that you were saying that you would like to see?

NORMAN: Look, I think these stories are of a concern to everyone. So to Rebecca's point, it's about making sure that we can disperse these stories throughout the rest of the Huffington Post universe and use those to bring people to BlackVoices, where they're going to be able to poke around and discover things on their own, be able to contribute, become part of this community in a very engaging way.

The thing that was so attractive to me is the Huffington Post platform with, you know, they just celebrated their 100 millionth comment on the site. People want to engage there. And I think that's the huge opportunity for us to really open up this dialogue.

KEYES: I want to ask all three of you a question. And I want to start with you, Ms. Johnson. There's been a lot of discussion as to whether or not we're living in a so-called post-racial world. So I wonder what you would say to those who would ask why African-Americans need a website written by and for black people. And I want to start with Ms. Johnson, then you, Rebecca, and then you, Christina.

JOHNSON: Well, it's been interesting, over the years, you know, even when Black Entertainment Television started. I think we then were able to take advantage of media on television where we were able to really tell the stories of the African-American community, to really post the stories. This is now different. We're now in a digital media world. And if we don't take advantage of this now, we're going to continue to lose our voice. And I think that's what's been happening over the years.

KEYES: Rebecca?

CARROLL: Well, I think that the post-racial America concept is really a fiction. I live in a racial world as a black woman, and I live in a racial world every day. Insofar as why we need a site that is written for and about and by black folks, you know, why do we need to be black? Why do we need to pass traditions? You know, why do we need to find out about people we don't know about? There are many, many ways to be black and to experience black America. And that's what we're trying to do.

KEYES: And Christina?

NORMAN: I also don't believe in the notion of post-racial. I don't understand what that phrase means. You know, race is a part of all of our lives in ways big and small every day. And I don't think that's something to be afraid of. I want to know the perspective of someone who is a young African-American woman in a city, in a rural area, you know. I want to be able to have that dialogue. That, again, is the beauty of the Internet, is that we can invite all sorts of voices in and not just have it be a singular perspective.

KEYES: If you're just joining us, this is TELL ME MORE, from NPR News.

We're talking about a new section of the Huffington Post called HuffPost BlackVoices. We're joined by three of its leaders: managing editor Rebecca Carroll, strategic adviser Sheila Johnson and executive editor Christina Norman.

So, Rebecca, BlackVoices is also featuring people from around the country that are stepping up to help their communities. For example, Omar Freilla, is giving back to his South Bronx neighborhood as founder of Green Worker Cooperatives. Tell us about that.

CARROLL: Omar is one of these young, sort of rare-but-great maverick green workers who has put together an organization where young people can really find out about, you know, simple things: recycle, ways to learn about the environment. There's mentorships in place. It really came from a, you know, his own sense of making change.

JOHNSON: I guess I would also just say that as great as the kind of serious stories that I know we're all devoted to covering are, I think the thing about Huffington Post that's been so great is the mix of high and low. So many black entertainers are leading popular culture right now. We have to make sure that we embrace, support, celebrate and, you know, get involved in those stories, as well as the ones that are, you know, more politically charged.

CARROLL: Yeah. And to reiterate, we are not looking to be the black take, you know. We don't want to be, OK, this such-and-such happens, you know, let's go to HuffPost BlackVoices to see what everybody in black America thinks. We just - we can't possibly do that, and we don't really want to do that.

KEYES: Ms. Johnson, you were co-founder of BET, of course. And I'm curious as to how do you keep this from getting the same kind of flak for content that BET eventually did for the content of the music videos. It was criticized for not having a lot of positive programming that was uplifting to the black community.

JOHNSON: Well, I think that happened just lately. I think when we put BET on the air, it was a totally different network. I mean, we had news. We had talk shows. We brought the conversation to a very high level. And it was right towards the end is when the launch of the videos really came in and got a little bit out of control there.

But I'm coming to this on the business side of it. It could be as far as branding with advertisers. It's going to be bringing other bloggers in there, introducing other journalists that I've come in contact with.

KEYES: I'm curious with so much else on our business plate, what compelled you to get involved in this?

JOHNSON: Frustration. I was very frustrated, actually, walking into newsroom and not seeing people of color - there was no diversity - trying to find news that was going to interest me. I wanted to know what was going on in the black community.

KEYES: In just the couple of minutes we have left, Ms. Johnson, I just want to ask you, what kind of reaction are you hearing from the public so far on this? I know you're at a soft launch now, but...

JOHNSON: Yeah. Well, this has been going on, actually, for a long time. And this is probably one of the most exciting weeks ever. We've been trying to work on this, and we have been working on this since last November. And all along the way, of course there's been some skepticism. And we have our critics out there. There's no doubt about that. But there is general excitement.

I mean, because what we're doing is we're really empowering the little guy. I mean, we're giving them a voice. And we've got a huge platform here, a really huge - I mean, we have 35 million users a month. I mean, this platform is as big as it can get. And so we're just very excited about being able to do this.

KEYES: All right, ladies, got to leave it there. Sheila Johnson is the strategic adviser for HuffPost BlackVoices. Rebecca Carroll is managing editor. She joined us from our bureau in New York City. Christina Norman is the executive editor and joined us from NPR West in Culver City. Thank you so much, ladies.

NORMAN: Thank you.

JOHNSON: Thank you.

CARROLL: Thanks.

Purple Stuff TV Interview

                                                      By Silent Ron
                                                    The Black Urban Times
Since the demise of the funny and entertaining, "Chappelle Show" their has been an empty space in the sketch comedy show arena. But now a new variety show entitled "Purple Stuff Tv" is stepping up to fill that void.
The creator of Purple Stuff Tv, Brandon Broussard with the help of Barry Floyd aka "TT" from The Game, used the remains of "SNL (the classic episodes)" "In Living Color" and "Chappelle Show" to create his own monster.

<--- Creator of Purple Stuff Tv-Brandon Broussard

Where did the name "Purple Stuff TV" come from?

When we were trying to think of a name, we had just watched Dave Chappelle's stand up, For What It's Worth.  And we got the name from that stand up where he's talking about the Sunny D commercial and he talks about the little black kid in the back who's looking in the fridge like, "I want that Purple Stuff."
How did this sketch comedy show come about?
I felt that when Chappelle went off the air, there was really a void in sketch comedy and we want to fill it.
What background do you have in the television/film industry?
I worked as a writer on Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Meet the Browns for several years.
I know this show was first displayed on the internet but when will it be shown on televison?
We recently shot a pilot and are shopping it around.  It's our hope to be on TV in the next six months.
How do you see this show going up against the reality shows?
I think people are dying for good sketch comedy.  When sketch is good, it's the most talked about thing on TV a la SNL Sarah Palin sketch, Chappelle Rick James and Prince sketches... people still quote In Living Color to this day "Hated it" and "Homie don't play that."
How is this sketch comedy different from the past comedy shows?
A lot of sketch comedy shows write for the cast of the show.  Purple Stuff is completely different in that, our writers have free reign to come up with the funniest ideas they can and then we cast based on who makes the sketch funniest.  In short, most sketch shows are geared towards what their cast is able to do, our sketch show is geared towards what our writers can write and we build our cast from there.  More like a film or traditional TV show.

What is the writing process like for these sketches?
Again, we're different than most sketch shows because of my sitcom background.  We write in a traditional writers room with Barry Floyd as the head writer and 8 other staff writers.  Everyone pitches their ideas for sketches.  We vote on the best ones.  We beat out those ideas into stories, outline them, then we assign those outlines to the writers we think are best suited to do those sketches.

Where does the bases of the sketches come from (news, gossip)?
We base our sketches on our own experiences and on current events.  We've done sketches on LeBron James and Tyler Perry and we have original characters like The Asstrologist and Ninera Sylvia.  We also poke fun at current trends like reality television and dating shows for example: One of our sketches is called For the Love of Jesus and is a spoof on For the Love of Ray J.
How can other talents/writers get involve with this show?
People can always reach out to us on our fan page on face book.  Purple Stuff TV.

How did Barry Floyd "Tee Tee" from "The Game" get involved with this show?
Barry initially came to LA to be a writer and knew one of the original cast members of Purple Stuff.  He's been writing on the show since its inception.  It's been fun to watch his acting career blow up at the same time that we're doing Purple Stuff.
Are there any traits of comedy that you borrowed from SNL, In Living Color, and The Chappelle Show?
From In Living Color, we definitely took their irreverence.  We think it's important to go after anyone in the news, no exceptions, when doing comedy.  If you're not offending someone, you're not doing comedy.  From SNL, we loved the news desk and when we're on TV, we will definitely have a news section of the show.  From Chappelle Show, we took the concept of digital shorts and ran with it.  We find that shooting a sketch like it's a mini film, and being able to tweak and edit it, makes for a much funnier product than say, doing it live.

What attracted the attention of Global Grind website?
We had a relationship with the VP of Rush Communications and when he saw the trailer for purple stuff, he immediately asked Global Grind to run the show on their network.
What sketch gained the most attention from the public?
The most popular sketch we've done is "The New Lebron Commercials"  We originally posted it on Global Grind but Russell thought it was too offensive and took it down.  We put it up on Youtube and it got over 300k hits that week without any promotion.
What is the goal of this comedy show?
We want to be the next generation of comedy sketch shows on TV.  We want people to talk about our show the way they talked about SNL, In Living Color, and Chappelle Show.

What do you see ahead for this comedy show in the next five years?
I see us getting on TV soon and everybody wanting "that Purple Stuff."
