San Diego Chargers star linebacker Shawne Merriman, who is coming back this season from knee surgery was arrested on suspicion of choking and restraining his girlfriend who was attempting to leave his home in San Diego. Merriman's girlfriend is 27 nyear old reality tv star Tila Tequila. She signed a citizens arrest warrant charging him. This is the next in a list of setbacks for Merriman which includes a suspension for steroid use, knee injury and others. It seems that his problems are not on the field but rather off the field. Im sure that the NFL commisioner will suspend him for some games. Merriman is an awesome talent but if he can not get his act together, his days in San Diego are over.

LT to stay with the Chargers

After heated negotiations, LaDainian Tomlinson and the San Diego Chargers have reached an agreement that will keep LT a Charger for the next three years. This also clears salary cap room for the team.
"I love San Diego and being a part of this team with my teammates," Tomlinson said."My No. 1 priority was to stay here in San Diego. I truly believe this is the place that gives me the best chance to be successful and win a championship. I want to finish the job we started when I got here eight years ago. My heart has always been in San Diego. I couldn't imagine putting on another uniform."
General Manager A.J. Smith was happy the whole LT ordeal was over and done with.
"The way I'm looking at it, L.T. has helped us on the field and now he's gone a step further and he's helped us off the field," Smith told.
"I'm just happy that it worked out," Smith said.
Very smart A.J. You have common sense. The fact of the matter was that there isn't a better feature back out there for you to get and to make your backfield credible so you really don't have a choice but to re sign LT. I like the fact that you have some sentimental feelings for the face of the franchise. The point is that you should because before he got there, your team was a dormant lottery team. LT you should have signed the contract because you used to be the most valued Charger until injuries have cut you down when the Chargers have really needed you. It was Phillip Rivers that was leading the team in your absence and in a sense has taken over the team. Take the pay cut like you have get to camp like your a rookie cause, the Chargers are gonna more than likel draft Knowshon Moreno and beat out the incumbent and show everyone you still got and you should have never been doubted in the first place ala Priest Holmes.

LaDainian Tomlinson days as a Charger could be over

The San Diego Chargers have presented LaDainian Tomilinson with a restructured contract. This is reported to be their final offer to LT. This offer is far less money than Tomlinson would have made in 2011. He is scheduled to make 24 million in 2011.
We can look at this in two ways. The last two trips to the playoffs, the Chargers have underachieved. That's mainly due to Tomlinson falling to injury. San Diego should have played in at least one Super Bowl. Tomlinson, you feel you should make a lot and I feel you but as the saying goes, "Big players step up in big games". You haven't LT so take the money and reprove yourself.
On the flip side, if San Diego lets LT go, it will be the end of the Chargers being an elite team. No one will respect the Chargers running game and they don't have a fullback that knows the first thing about blocking so Darren Sproles will not be as effective as LT. Defenses will play the pass and eat San Diego up because the person they will respect most will be Phillip Rivers. Keep in mind what LT has done for you in eight years, but also keep in mind where you want to go as a football team as well.
