Burgeoning Hip-Hop Duo Teams Up With Big Ced’s Industry Cosign for Album Debut
New York, NY June 14, 2009 —Join Rebel Starr, NYC’s soul-Aquarian wonder twins, on June 25, for the Industry Cosign edition of the Constellations Listening Party at Negril Village. The cosmic-girl-boy duo will celebrate the release of their debut album, Neo Quantum Retro Music. Likwuid Stylez of Columbia, SC and Back Wordz of Queens have combined forces nearly three years ago to create a mash up brand of music bordering on funk, soul and trance, and have been making noise up and down the East Coast. The most intriguing thing about them is, although they rap their style still can’t be defined. And the dynamic duo would have it no other way.
“Rebel Starr is a cosmic composite packed into a rap group awaiting combustion,” says Likwuid. “We are the black sheep of the indie music scene because we can mesh with any type of group therefore, it’s tough to categorize us. It really frustrates some folks because they can’t put us in a box, but we love it.”
Recently chosen as Urb magazine’s Next 1,000, they’ve rocked stages from the prestigious Columbia University to popular venues in NYC like Hiro Ballroom, Public Assembly, and have opened for Lyfe Jennings, Talib Kweli and DJ Webstar. You may have also spotted them on MTV’s TRL or in the front row of Vh1’s Storytellers, featuring Jay-Z.
Their first promotional EP entitled, Adventures in the Boondocks was released in September 2008, and received critical acclaim from KevinKnottingham.com and Rise Up Radio, and featured the smash hits, “Look What I Can Do” and “Back Again.” Now, it’s time to begin phase one of Earth’s domination.
