At 5:02 pm (EST), Captain Kades, an investigator at the Los Angeles County Coroner's office told the Black Urban Times that the LACCO was "en route to Cedars Sinai Medical Center to investigate the death of Miss Murphy" but that his office was "not releasing any information until after their investigation was complete and a next-of-kin could be notified."
Reports circulating the internet state that the 32-year-old actress and singer went into full cardiac arrest before reaching the hospital and was pronounced dead at Cedars Sinai Medical Center sometime this morning.
Murphy, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was best known for her roles in the movies "8 Mile" where she played the love interest of "Rabbit" played by rap star Eminem, "Clueless," opposite Stacey Dash and "Girl, Interrupted."
Murphy, once a Jordache spokeswoman was voted amongst 100 of the sexiest women in 2006 and made her Hollywood debut at the tender age of 14 as Brenda Drexell in the series "Drexell's Class." Her performance on the series paved the way for recurring roles on TV hit series such as "Fraiser," "Party of Five," "Sister, Sister" and "Blossom."
Murphy's singing career took off in 2006 with the release of her hit "Faster Kill Pussycat," from her album "A Lively Mind" and reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Play chart. It hit number seven on the UK's singles chart the same year. It was her first and last hit.
One of her more memorable live performances was aboard the USS Nimitz when she toured with the United Services Organization (USO).
Murphy dated actor and one time co-star, Ashton Kutcher in 2002, but married Brit screenwriter, Simon Monjac in 2007.
