The U.S. Government will begin offering temporary asylum to illegal Haitian immigrants
who are living in the states illegally. The Department of Homeland Security announced this afternoon that Haitians will be extended a legal status for the next 18 months.

Their new classification will be known as "Temporary Protected Status" which will allow them the freedom to live and work in the country openly, while their home country recovers from the devastating earthquake that plunged their homeland into a state of dire emergency.
