SUFFERN - A Haitian police officer who lost a part of his leg in the earthquake was brought to the Hudson Valley for medical treatment.
From his bed at Good Samaritan Hospital, Jovins-Lin Dorestan, 25, said through a translator how lucky he feels to be a survivor.
Dorestan was outside his house when the earthquake hit, burying him under the rubble. After he was freed, a part of his leg that was pinned under debris had to be amputated.
"His courageousness was just beyond belief," says Nathalia Bosquet, of the Ramapo Haitian Task Force.
Jovins will later be transported to Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital and fitted for a prosthetic leg. VIDEO
