Controversial self-help guru James Arthur Ray was arrested in Sedona, Arizona, on manslaughter charges. Ray, who totes himself as a spiritual leader, was arrested without incident at his attorney's office in Prescott, Arizona.

The charges stem from the deaths of Kirby Brown, James Shore and Liz Neuman who died while attending one of Ray's sweat lodge ceremonies in October 2009.

Ray's lawyer scoffed at the charges, calling the deaths tragic accidents that his client could not foresee happening.

However, witnesses in attendance at the October 9 ceremony dispute that. One woman said there were no medical personnel on site and the doctor that was present at the ceremony was a participant and not an employee.

The Yavapai County Sheriff, Steve Waugh, issued a statement about the arrest of Ray where he personally thanked the families of the vicitms for their patience throughout the department's investigation.

The statement read: "With the arrest of James Ray, Sheriff Waugh hopes the families of the three victims will now have some measure of closure to this tragedy."

Sgt. Chase of the Eastern Detention facility located in Camp Verde would only confirm to the Black Urban Times that Ray is being held at the Camp Verde jail in lieu of a $5 million bond and referred all other information to the department's media officer.
